Each one you must have heard about COVID-19 disease from the news and internet and how this disease has caused a pandemic worldwide, resulting in lockdowns and curfews across the globe. India is also one of those nations which has taken such extreme steps to stop this pandemic from spreading.

Parents must ensure children remain calm during this lockdown and take all the necessary precautions as recommended by WHO.

COVID-19 disease is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which is very contagious in humans. This outbreak originated in Wuhan, in China in December 2019. After that, this virus started spreading in other countries as well via person-to-person.

How can you be affected by the virus?

The virus COVID-19 transmits through direct contact. This means by touching the infected person or breathing in the droplets from cough or sneezes from him/her. You can also be infected if you touch an infected surface, as there are chances you will put the same hands on your face and nose. People with weak immunity, aged people, and one with medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, and heart problems are at higher risk.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms of this virus are very mild or almost negligible during the initial stage. Later it shows symptoms like cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat, weakness, and pneumonia. If you get sick, it doesn’t mean you have COVID-19, as there could be other reasons too. Don’t panic in this situation.

What precautions you should take?

ü   Wash your hands with soap frequently or use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
ü  Cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
ü  Avoid touching surfaces.
ü  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
ü  Maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from everyone.
